In simple terms the server owner is the person who holds the most moderation privilege's in the server, the server owner cannot be banned, kicked, or timed out. However, they can ban, kick, or timeout anybody besides people with the administrator permission as discord does not allow people with administrator permissions to be timed out.
There are a few ways to find out who the owner of the server is. For some servers it may be easier to find the owner then other servers due to some discord limitations.
Most commonly people can find the server owner as they will have the crown (👑) icon next to their name on the server member list. An example is shown below.
As mentioned earlier not all server owners will have the crown next to their name, this is common in bigger servers and servers with discord community settings enabled.
In this case you will need to use the discord API to find out who the server owner is. You can use this endpoint of the discord API to find out this information. In the API response the "owner_id" field will be the discord ID of the server owner.
To transfer ownership of a server on the mobile app you need to head to the member page first. The member page is located in the server settings page for the mobile app. You can find the server settings by clicking on the server name.
After you are on the member page of the server head to the member you wish to transfer server ownership to. Once you found that specific user click on that user. Once on that user head to the "Transfer Ownership" button and press it.
After, you will be prompted with a toggle agreeing to pass full ownership to the other person. If you have 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled you will then need to input your 2FA code, however, if you do not have 2FA enabled then after you the agreement toggle discord may email you a verification code which you will need to input. Finally, after all these steps have been completed ownership of the server has been successfully transferred.
Server Ownership is a very dangerous permission to transfer to other people you do not trust. We recommend not transferring server ownership to people you do not fully trust for the security of your server(s).
